I just fell into a conversation with my brother where I had to explain why money does not need to exist and why people can work without making money because basic needs are met and resources are shared.
“But how do people pay for these resources?”
“They don’t because money doesn’t exist.”
“So, how do people buy them?”
“They don’t. They are given to them in exchange for labor.”
“But why would anyone work if they’re not making money?”
“Because there is a mutually beneficial relationship between the laborer and society. If they don’t want to do that, then they can leave society.”
“I don’t get it. Is that communism?”
“Essentially. There is no dictator. It’s a democracy.”
“My economics professor says communism and democracy are complete opposites.”
“No they aren’t. Communism is reflective of the type of economy and democracy is reflective of the type of government.”
