Just went to my first occupy meeting in a while, and it was pretty emotional in a lot of ways, both positive and negative.
The topic at hand was whether to pursue renewing our contract with the city for the site that we are occupying. With so many people financiallytemporallyemotionally invested…
I know I haven’t been to Occupy Tallahassee many times (I spent the weekend there for the Florida People’s Convention), but you guys have no idea how well you have it there. You have a space to physically occupy, the state capitol building is down the street, you have a couple well-known co-ops nearby, and FSU and TCC are extremely close for resources and outreach. To be honest, from what I saw there and from who I spoke to, Occupy Tallahassee became complacent. In Orlando, we aren’t as fortunate as your occupation. As much as many of us thought the purpose of physically occupying was over, many have come to realize more and more that we need it. Many of us need to live together in a space to get more done.
I look forward to hearing about how this trial period goes. I hate offering advice, but I think you guys have the means to have an amazing occupation and everyone needs to step it up. Also, I know people in several Florida occupations who have talked about moving to Tallahassee to occupy there. So, I would recommend and hope that Occupy Tallahassee renews their contract.
